3rd XI Vs Bolton Wyresdale (Home)

Old Blacks 6 - 0 Bolton Wyresdale

I want to start off by saying a big thank you to QEGS, and the Old Blacks, for somehow managing to get both the first team and our game on after a week of horrible weather.
Old Blacks were celebrating their 90th anniversary, with some of past players coming down, and a buffet being organised for everyone after the games, so it would have been a shame to have had no football this weekend.
We welcomed Bolton Wyresdale Res, who seem to be having an hard time of it at the bottom of the table, but we still had a job to do because we knew that a win would keep the pressure on Horwich Victoria at the top of the league and it would also make it a full year unbeaten at home in the league.

We started ‘OK’ and had a few early chances to go ahead in the first ten minutes or so, but then we started to get a little frustrated and passes started going either to the opposition or through to their keeper, but we went in front after around 25 minutes after a cross in to the box from Rick McGurty was headed back over the keepers head from around the penalty spot by the Wyresdale centre half for an own goal.
We soon went two up after a shot was fumbled by the keeper allowing Jordan Fielding to sneak in and smash the ball in from close range.

We were now on top and you could sense that here we go again feeling coming from the Wyresdale lad’s body language, and they started to commit silly fouls and also started arguing with each other.
They did have one effort that needed Brad Oliver to pull off a great save, but after that he had little else to do for the rest of the afternoon. He did also have an assist for one goal.

Into the second half, and we soon killed the game off after a great run from Andre, cutting inside the box, then finished with an excellent shot into the top corner of the net, giving the keeper no chance. Minutes later a corner was powerfully headed home by skipper Mark Feeney, to make it 4-0.
Our best goal was scored by Elliot Guinan making it five. He picked up the ball outside the box, then beat two or three defenders, to go through and slot the ball past the advancing keeper.

A second own goal finished off the scoring but we really could and should have had more. A foul just inside the area gave us a penalty, but after the referee delayed it for minute or two, while booking more players, then Rick Mcgurty managed to nearly smash the upstairs window of one the houses high up behind the goals!
The game then became messy with Bolton having a man sent off and ended up having 3 or 4 lads booked, but in the end we kept a clean sheet, scored 6 and got the 3 points.

Note to everyone

Please can we make an effort to get there on time so the rest of the squad don't have to stand round waiting to warm up, and can we all make sure we don't turn up drunk in future. It was like I was looking at a drowned Rat watching Shutty in the second half!!

Players Marks

Brad Oliver - 8 Second clean sheet of the season, made one great save in the first half a spectator in the second half

Lewis Fielding - 7 Nervy first half but did much better after the break, needs a little more carrot and a bit less stick boys!

Paul Amos 8 - Another strong performance, started a little slow but got better as the game went on.

Mark Feeney 8 - Organised the defence well and worked well with Alex at the back. Not tested too much, scored yet again! Pleading to play up front, maybe one day?

Alex Boardman 8 - A good performance and becoming mister versatile able to play in any position, Great energy.

Andre Veneziale 8 - Another quality goal, great set balls in to the box and pushing for player of the season again

Will Ainsworth 7 - Never gives less than 100% and managed to hold on to the ball really well. Keeps on improving every week

Keiron Laskowski 7 - Now starting to see the best of Kie and forming a good partnership with Will, More goals please??

Rick Mcgurty 6 - Don't mention the penalty! Ran his sock off but just one of those days when things didn't come off.

Jordan Fielding 7 - Scored one and could have had a hat-trick, gives everything for the team and never gives up.

Elliot Guinan 7 - Scored a great goal showing composure but needs to work on passing and moving more, if he does this he will score even more goals.

Danny Shutt 5 – A generous 5, a shadow of his usual self, didn't do anything wrong but just looked and played like he was still drunk!

Will Johnson 6 - Came on at half time and fitted in well, seemed to be everywhere and nearly scored a screamer but for a great save from there keeper in the top corner

James Halshaw 6 - Great understanding with Will J and he also brought energy to the team

3rd XI Vs Old Mancunians (Away)

Another ghost was laid to rest, after last season’s 6-2 defeat to Old Mancunians we travelled over to central Manchester determined not to repeat the mistakes of last season. For a start we made sure we had the correct address and postcode.
We also set off earlier knowing it was a difficult place to get to. We didn't really need to bother as the referee decided to turn up 5 minutes before the 2Pm kick off.
Kick off was delayed for 10 minutes but it didn't take long to for us to take the lead. A nice move down the left hand side was finished off with a well taken goal from Andre Veneziale after a great ball through from Paul Amos.
We looked in control and it looked like only a matter of time before we scored a second. Wrong - a long ball through was missed by everyone allowing the Old Mancunians lone striker to run through and score. I could go on and bore everyone of where it went wrong, but I will take that up with the defenders involved before our next game.
We went in front again after a ball was played into the far post for Keiron Laskowski to finish off at the fourth attempt.
Old Mancunians then pulled back level after another long ball found there left winger about 10 yards off side, everyone stopped including, their players but for some reason (???) the referee shouted and waved play on. To be fair there was still a bit of work to be done, but their winger went through to score a very controversial goal.
That meant the last 15 minutes of the half was awful to watch due to everyone connected with Old Blacks feeling hard done to.
We came in at half time a little deflated but I still felt it was our game to lose. We were the better team and just needed to get sorted out.
After a few quiet words and three substitutions we came out all guns blazing. Unfortunately I forgot to tell the referee about the substitutes, so they all ended up with a booking for entering the field of play without permission.
We went 3-2 up shortly after when a great move started from substitute Lewis Fielding playing into Danny Shutts feet, Dan then played a one two with Jordan Fielding, then played a great ball in for Rick Mcguirty to finish off well from inside the box.
The referee then realised he had missed the Old Mancunians substitution at right back coming on at halftime without permission, so he then booked him as well.
We then killed the game off after Will Ainsworth tapped in a goal from close range.
We then a perfectly good goal ruled out for off side, after another great move, finished off by Rick Mcgurty.
In the end it was comfortable win. Again not firing on all cylinders, but more than good enough and three more points. Well done to all involved.

Players Marks

Bradley Oliver 8 - A couple of top save but could do nothing with goals

Mark Feeney 7 - Along with the defence had a shaky 1st half

Andre Veneziale 8 - Usual tidy game and another goal

Daniel Shutt 6 - Worst 1st half performance ever, pulled it back after half time- worked his socks off

Keiron Laskowski 8 - Better with every game and a wonder goal!!!!

Jordan Fielding 7 - Suffered like the rest of defence in 1st half, much better second half up front

Andrew Charnley 6 - Helped keep clean sheet in the 2nd half and worked well alongside the skipper

Sam Dixon 5 - Not a great day for Sam, he was ill, got there late, booked, and only lasted 5 mins on the pitch. FTB and a day to forget for him

Lewis Fielding 6 - Tidy second half from the bench, helped to calm things down at the back

Rick Mcgurty 8 - Ran his socks off all afternoon and deserved more than the one goal.

Paul Amos 7 - A bit shaky in the 1st half, like everyone but did well when he came back on

Alex Boardman 7 - Looked like he was going to rip Old Mancunians to bits but fitness took its toll, went in defence for second half and did well.

3rd XI Vs Horwich RMI Res (Away)

Well this is another job passed on to me by Mr. Upton Jnr! Big boots to fill eh Paul?

We travelled over to Horwich arriving early to try and get in to the away changing rooms before a certain Mr.Taylor turned up starting his mind games, but apparently after the near riot he was involved in the week before he had been left out of Horwich’s squad altogether! Happy-days.

We welcomed back long term injured players Alex Boardman and Brad Langhorn for their first game of the season.

We started with a 4-5-1 formation opting to be cautious from the kick off. This was the wrong line up to start with and the blame falls directly with me. We were all over the place in the first half an hour and found ourselves 2-0 down after a couple of silly errors, especially for their second goal.

There was only one thing to do and that was to go 4-4-2 subbing Kieran Laskowski from a holding midfield position and throwing on Brad Langhorn straight up front. From that moment on we looked a more balanced side and immediately started to threaten the Horwich goal.

A blatant penalty was turned down after Brad was hacked down in the box and then to add insult to injury he ended up being booked for diving!! I wondered if it was gonna be one of them days.

The ref soon shouted that we were into the final two minutes of injury time so my thoughts started to shift to the half time rollocking that I was about to dish out to everyone. Thankfully the lads kept pushing and in the fourth, yes fourth minute of injury time Andrew Charnley thundered in an header from a cross. To be honest I can’t remember if it was from a corner or not? We were back in it at 2-1 and I felt confident we could go on and get something out of the game.

The riot act was still read out at half time and I could see from everyone’s reaction that there was a belief that we could go on and win this game.

We came out on the front foot and attacked like we were a different team and soon pulled level. The ball was delivered neatly into Brad Langhorns feet, just inside the edge of the area, he spun quickly and got off a sharp shot towards the corner of the net. The keeper should have perhaps done a little better but he could only get one hand to the shot before it ended up in the net. Now at 2-2 you could only see one team going on to win and that was us, we pushed forward and caused Horwich all sorts of problems with our pace especially on the wings.

We eventually got the winner after a neat ball was threaded through for Elliot Guinan to outpace 3 defenders from the halfway line, take the ball into the penalty box and then drill the ball into the left hand corner of the net.

We had more chances to score including Brad hitting the inside of the post but in the end we were all happy to take the three points.

In the end there were some encouraging performances, both Alex Boardman and Matt Dewhurst came on towards the end and proved how much strength in depth we now have in our squad. Both players were happy to come on and attack at every opportunity and one run from Alex nearly ended up with what would have been a brilliant goal! Run forest run!!

Daniel shut filled in at right back and while maybe he didn’t have a great first half (who did?) he more than made up for it with a quality second half display by cutting out anything Horwich could throw at him.

With two home games to come we need to keep improving and look to get a full 90 minutes of decent football and you never know? With a little more improvement we could be nearer the top of the table not the bottom come the end of the season??

Well Done ADHDFC and FTB

3rd XI Vs Mostonians (Home)

This was always going to be a tough game. Mostonians were in 2nd place and beat us at their place 5-3 earlier in the season. I was away for that game so I didn't really know what to expect. From what the lads told me about the 1st game, I reckoned it was going to be the team that defended best that would take the points. Also looking at the size of some of the opposition it was obvious they would cause us problems from set pieces

We started the game strongly for a change and took the game to Mostonians from the kick off. There was a good tempo from everyone, and I felt relaxed for a change.

The first real chance came went Matt Dewhurst collected the ball in midfield and placed a perfect ball through for Sam Dixon to run on to on the right hand side of the box. Sam took a touch then struck the ball sweetly. I was halfway through my goal celebration but then realised the keeper somehow deflected the ball onto the underside of the bar. A great save, but only minutes later a similar move down the right provided us with our first goal. Elliot Guinan this time played Sam through and he made no mistake this time drilling the ball past the oncoming keeper.

Within a few minutes we went two up after a perfect cross from a free kick by Andre found the big tug Feeneys head for him to give the keeper no chance but for the last five minutes of the half we were in control. We managed to safely get to half time 2-0 up.

We continued the same in the second half but I could see that old Mostonians were gradually coming back into the game.

Even so we had the better chances and really should have killed the game off before we conceded.

Alex Boardman had a one on one with the keeper but again a very good save denied him. Then Alex hit a volley over the bar from just over 6 yards out.

We conceded with around 25 minutes left but the warning signs were already there after we started giving away a few silly free kicks and corners. We again gave away a free kick just outside the area that was floated in just past the penalty spot and headed in giving Brad Oliver no chance, I found out after the game it was Shutty who headed in for an own goal!

After their goal I felt we defended well and caused all sorts of problems on the break. It was a good game to watch and in the end I felt we fully deserved the 3 points against a decent Mostonians team.

Players Marks

Brad Oliver 8 - Solid as usual but had no chance with goal. Keep saying it every week- great distribution

Danny Shutt 7 - another good game and not to blame for the OG never stopped running for 90 mins

Paul Amos 7 - unlucky to be taken off at half time after a solid 45 mins and made no mistakes. Should have put him back on for last 15 mins.

Mark Feeny 8 - strong as an Ox and another well taken goal, a couple of clumsy challenges but otherwise a top performance from the skipper

Jordan Fielding 8 - a much better performance, working hard and forming a great defensive partnership with the skipper, reads the game well.

Andre Veneziale 8 - Makes the games look simple and some excellent balls into the box.

Will Ainsworth 7 - ran his socks off again for the team and would have an 8 if his distribution was a little better

Keiron Laskowski 7 - Strong performance and worked hard for the team as usual- improving every week

Matt Dewhurst 7 - had his best game of the season and was a menace going

Elliot Guinan 7 - took on the mostonians defence at every opportunity and created problems all afternoon

James Hallshaw 6 - a good tidy performance and never shirks a tackle, needs to work on his positional play

Eathan Potter 6 - looked comfortable on the ball and made some strong tackles, Made no mistakes

Alex Boardman 7 - Came on at the back then pushed up front, Should have had a couple of goals and put himself about. Came off at the end knackered.

Jordan Fielding 6 – Like Rick, just didn’t happen but they can both score goals and be match winners
